A waiting game

SOoOo,  The past couple of weeks have made me realize that if I can survive this winter, then the rest of the year will be easy living.  I have also infact come to realize how much I am not ment for a cell phone, (probably the 20th I have broken) so if you are trying to get in touch with me then give me a call on my house phone.

In my last post I talked about a possible injury, and have been diagnosed with a hernia after a couple of different opinions.   This means that I will have to have undergo surgery before kiting again, and will be meeting with my surgeon, Dr. Enderson, on the 28th to figure out when this will take place.  I have read up on the surgery, and will be back on the water within 4 weeks if all goes to plan.   The only depressing part is that he probably will not able to fit me in until the first week of March at the earliest, since he is a very popular surgeon in the area.  This means no kiting, surfing, or anything that involves lifting until late March.   No worries though, since I have found other ways to keep myself active through the day.

One thing I am still able to do is ride my bike, and have done a couple solo rides through Seashore State Park.  This is an amazing place I grew up training for cross-country, and provides amazing mountain biking for the area.  Not to mention what a scenic place this small area is.  It is probably the last 16 mile stretch of hikable land that gives visitors the real feeling of what Virginia Beach used to look like.  The interesting part about this coastal forest enviroment is the fact that most of the foundation is just rolling sand dunes.  This is what makes biking in seashore that much fun.  > http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/fir.shtml

In addition to physical activity you must always “keep your mind right” if you plan on being succesful at anything.  If you do not have a positive attitude towards life, or anything you do then achieving goals becomes extremely difficult.  If something ever gets me down, whether it be in my control or others, then I try to focus all that negative energy into something that will affect me positively.  Most of my motivation comes from my downfalls, and the want for those experiences to never happen again.  I can’t really prevent a hernia, but I have set up a workout schedule to work around it.  This ensures that I stay fit, and have improved my flexibility dramatically.

Friends are what really helps keep your mind right.  Good experiences with good friends puts anyone in an awesome mood.  I read that January 25th is the most depressing day of the year, however, mine was exact opposite of depressing.  The  weather helped a lot with 65 degree temperature and a clearing blue sky.  However,  the time that I spent with my friends just hanging out having a good time was what really made the day…  Nothing like cruising around in the blazer with the windows down, bumpin something fresh.  On the sad note, one of the members of my “crew”, Rhett, is moving for 3 months to Spain.  The nice thing about this was that we were able to throw a very going away party!  This took place out at ODU, and really brought back a lot of good memories.  Rhett was my roommate out at ODU, as well as being my good friend since grade school.   Although he is leaving for a lengthy period, the fun memories with him will continue this summer for sure though!

Anyone that is completely out of the kiteboard loop, then give this a look > http://www.realkiteboarding.com/index.cfm?page=newsitem&id=1663  .   It is an article for the 2010 Tripple S contest that occurs every year at the establishment I work at REAL WATERSPORTS.  It is the biggest contest in kiteboarding, as well as one of the best contest formats I have ever experienced.  If anyone really wants to see some amazing kiteboarding, and have insane nights of partying on an island then this is the event for you!   There are no spectator entry fees, and the action is right in front of you.  This is how Kiteboard events should be run, and this type of contest is only going to become more popular as kiteboarding moves in the right direction.

In addition to missing kiteboarding, the thing I miss more than anything is hanging out with my amazing girlfriend.  The times we share are the best, and can’t wait to see her again soon!

Sorry for the novel,

One love
